  • Jack Arnfield issued as mandatory to Tommy Langford’s British middleweight title

    June 17, 2017Tommy Langford

The British Boxing Board of Control have ordered Jack Arnfield (24-2) as Tommy Langford’s (18-1) mandatory opponent for the first defence of his British middleweight title. The Stewards decided to put the British Championship contest to purse bids to be submitted by July 12th, with the contest ordered to take place by the end of October 2017. Birmingham’s Langford was due to defend his British belt for the first time against local rival Craig Cunningham earlier this year but was lured away from that fight with a bigger opportunity to challenge for the interim WBO World middleweight title against Avtandil Khurtsidze (32-2-2), who has just been arrested on RICO charges in America. Langford’s intention was to beat the Russian in or...

    • Basildon boxer calls time on a remarkable pro career • Competed in three different weight divisions, dropping down each time • Took an eight-rounder in just his third pro fight • International Challenge Belt winner at super-middleweight • Three title fights in six contests When a 28-year-old Paul Hilz walked into Southend Boxing Club, he wouldn’t have guessed that seven years later he would be retiring from a remarkable professional boxing career. He also wouldn’t have believed that he would experience 14 unlicensed fights, losing just one, and lifting two cruiserweight titles before going on to signing a professional contract and competing in three title fights. It was after a second-round stoppage defeat to Birmingham’s ...

In his first appearance since 2015, the former WBO Inter-Continental champion plans to resurrect his career after successful surgery on both hands, which were left badly damaged after his sole career defeat. • Langford defeated by Khurtsidze

    April 23, 2017Tommy Langford

Tommy Langford (18-1) was beaten by WBO No.1 Avtandil Khurtsidze (33-2-2) via a fifth-round stoppage as the Georgian set up a bout against WBO World middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders. The fight was for the WBO World middleweight interim title, with the winner becoming Saunders’ mandatory challenger. Langford previously stated his desire to face stablemate Saunders, but the dream was shattered when he was floored with a fierce left-hook by the 37-year-old at Leicester Arena, in front of the BT Sport cameras. Bideford-born Langford was stunned by the Brooklyn-based Khurtsidze in the opening round, who is known as a ‘Mini Mike Tyson’ with 22 KO’s on his ledger. In the following three rounds, Langford learnt to shift his f...
  • Mickey Ellison concedes unbeaten record to Carl Wild

    April 22, 2017Mickey Ellison

Light-heavyweight prospect Mickey Ellison dropped to 2-1 on his record at the hands of former Central Area light-heavyweight champion Carl ‘Born 2 B’ Wild (15-26-5) on April 21st at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on a VIP Promotions show. It was a frantic first round with both fighters trying to establish their dominance. Ellison’s uppercuts were the most successful shots fired and landed in abundance. The high work rate set from the start looked to have taken its toll early on for the 26-year-old home fighter from Darwen. The travelling fighter looked busier in the second round and piled the pressure on Ellison. Wild came flying out of the traps in the third segment. Ellison covered up and rallied back in the second ha...

  • Tim Rickson breaks down Langford v Khurtsidze

    April 21, 2017Tommy Langford

Tommy Langford v Avtandil Khurtsidze This weekend will see WBO #1 Avtandil Khurtsidze (32-2-2) pitted against WBO #3 Tommy Langford (18-0) for the vacant interim WBO World middleweight title at the Leicester Arena with the BT Sport cameras at ringside. As the pair faced-off this week, there was a sizeable difference between them. The six-foot frame of Langford towered over the 5ft6” bulk of Khurtsidze. There are many similarities between them, however, both fighters won titles in successful amateur careers, each representing their native countries. They are currently topping the rankings in the World Boxing Organisation’s 160lbs standings after winning separate titles with the governing body. Langford reached the heights of a...
  • Langford's storm warning

    April 21, 2017Tommy Langford

When Tommy Langford finally got to realise his early ambition of fighting for the British title, it didn’t pan out to be epic encounter he would have hoped for. Sheffield’s Sam Sheedy was in the opposite corner – having taken the place of original opponent Chris Eubank jnr – and, for Langford, it quickly became clear that it was going to be a case of just getting the job done. To say the fight was cagey would be an understatement and you couldn’t even claim it was one for the purist. If ‘Nobbins’ fights were still in existence then any spare change would’ve remained firmly in pockets. Sheedy publicly proclaimed he was going to be Langford’s worst nightmare ahead of the fight, that he was going to spoil and be elusive. He got it ...
  • Langford eyes Saunders clash should Golovkin fail to materialise

    April 20, 2017Tommy Langford

Baggies bomber Tommy Langford is hoping a victory over Avtandil Khurtsidze for the WBO Interim Middleweight Title will secure an all-British showdown with World Champion Billy Joe Saunders. On Saturday night the unbeaten British Champion headlines the Leicester Arena, with a full undercard in support featuring Anthony Yarde, Tyrone Nurse, Daniel Dubois, Lyon Woodstock Jr and more. “When the fight was offered, I was more than happy to say yes and take it,” Langford told BoxNation. “Winning this puts you front of the queue for Billy Joe Saunders. I don’t know if he’s got a big fight or not, but if not he must fight me. “That’s a big domestic fight there in itself, something I’ve always wanted. This means I can’t be avoided so I ha...
